Q: Do we wake up and go to sleep at the same time each day?
A: Just like a typical week at home, "school days", Monday - Saturday, wake-up is 7:45 in the morning. "Lights-out" ranges in time according to your age. On Sunday, we have a more relaxing schedule; and, instead of regular divisional activities, whole camp fun days are planned, including full camp water fights, capture the flag, carnival day, etc.

Q: Does the camp have a dress code?
A: Of course not! (Except for off-camp trips when we all wear the camp t-shirt) You will be sent a suggested clothing list. The list will contain items such as sneakers, shorts, sweat pants, under garments, jeans. There is no uniform at Camp Kingsmont, so bring whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Q: What if I don't want to do an activity or I'm nervous about trying?
A: Camp Kingsmont prides itself as a great place to have loads of fun without teasing or ridicule. It is amazing how safe you will feel in trying new things, even things you thought you did not like or were self-conscious about back home. Everybody is different when it comes to their abilities and what they like to do. All activities begin with helpful instruction. For those who are not skilled at an activity, you will get the special attention you need to feel comfortable trying. Those with more skill or comfort can look for tips for more fun.

Q: Do we eat diet food all the time, and what if I get hungry?
A: The Camp Kingsmont nutrition program is based on reality so that when you go back home, you won't feel it is impossible to practice the new habits learned at camp. We'll teach you about foods and recipes that you will enjoy and can easily continue at home. We serve 'regular food' such as pizza, tacos, bagels, chicken, tuna fish, and the list of things you like goes on and on. We don't believe in quick results brought on by "starvation dieting" food plans (1200 calories or less) so you are less likely to feel hungry. And besides, having fun becomes so much a part of your focus, you think less about eating.

We serve each person based on their physical characteristics. It is very understandable that a bigger person would need to have more calories than a smaller person, because they would need more energy to stay active (for those that are unaware, calories are to people like gas is to a car.) And you can't have as much fun being active if you don't have enough energy to last through the play periods in between meals and snacks. Before the last activity period, and before bed time, a snack is given out, usually fruit, pretzels, healthy cookies, etc.

Q: I want to lose 35 pounds. Can I?
A: No camp can or should guarantee that you will reach your goal...in the end, that will be up to you. We will promise that you will lose weight; but more importantly, the owner of Camp Kingsmont remembers what it was like to want to lose 35 pounds (and more) and he and his staff (many of whom were also overweight Kingsmont campers) will help you to achieve your goal throughout your fun time at camp and after you return home to school. Your success will be achieved by how you think about yourself, how you feel physically and by the food and exercise choices you make; not solely by what the scale reads. Make sense? Are you ready to join the Kingsmont family?
