What to Bring
Campers and staff reside in the dorm rooms at Hampshire College. The dorm rooms have a twin bed (long), a dresser, desk and chair. The
dorm rooms are not air conditioned. Fans are a must; window air conditioning units are prohibited, but you may bring a box or window fan.
Essentials for your room include the following:
2 sets twin sheets (long) plus a blanket and pillow(s); 2 towels and face cloths;
hangers; a small area rug; clock; bedside lamp for reading (there is an overhead light); books; and an umbrella.
We spend a lot of time involved in athletics and other activities. Essentials for physical activity include the following
(suggested minimum):
6 t-shirts; 3-4 shirts; 4 pair shorts; 2-3 pairs long pants; jeans; lots of underwear; 8 pair white socks; a heavy sweatshirt and a lighter sweater; sweatpants; a jacket; rain gear; 2 pair sneakers; a belt; 2 swim suits and a beach towel; flip-flops or sandals; a hat; and
sunglasses. Some campers like to have hiking boots.
Evening Activities
Evening activities include various themed dances as well as skits, games and non-competitive and competitive contests. Many campers like
to participate in the themed dances by appearing in costume. The dance themes this year include ‘black & white’; ‘toga’;
‘Halloween’; ‘PJ’; ‘International Night’; ‘Motown’; and ‘Prom’. In addition, we have several dances scheduled ‘under the stars.’
Campers are encouraged to bring clothing to dress up for the various dances including dress shoes.
In addition, campers should bring the following:
Campers should also bring personal toiletries including soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, and deodorant.
Campers should bring a water bottle. They are expected to carry and use the water bottle at all times. Proper hydration
is essential to weight loss. Bring a camera to record your summer.
Prohibited Items
Campers may want to bring their own sports equipment, such as a softball glove. We expect to do quite a bit of mountain and street
biking (the campus has a great 1.2 mile internal loop). Feel free to bring your bike (remember a lock) and a bike helmet. Even if you do
not bring a bike, a bike helmet would be a good idea. Finally, as we are outside most days and many evenings, bug repellent is very useful.
Campers may not bring TV’s, video games, food or beverages of any sort, a knife or weapons of any sort, pets or alcohol.
All prescription and non-prescription drugs must be checked in and monitored by the camp nurse.
Laundry is done every week from week 2 through week 7. Please be sure to mark all clothing and other items with the camper’s name. You
can send clothing to camp via UPS. Please direct the packages to Camp Kingsmont, 893 West Street, Emily Dickinson Hall, Amherst, MA 01002.
